| The
beauty of the new high speed support is in its simplicity to use!
All you need to do is to make sure your profile is defined to
a local channel volume and that's about it!

No changes or reconfiguration
of the actual Local Backup Disk is necessary to begin using this
support. By specifying the local backup disk for your restore
in the same way that you do for your backups, the local backup
disk will automatically be used as a transfer device for your
restores.

As an example of the
performance benefits a financial company in the Northeast who
tested with the BETA release and was able to restore 32GB in just
2 hours 12 minutes with virtually no impact on the
LAN.

S/390
LINUX support for Oracle and DB2
UPSTREAM continues
to be the logical product of choice for shops that are entering
the world of S/390 LINUX systems. As organizations plan pilot
projects or have more advanced plans of rollout of applications
for production use, UPSTREAM is a major part of an organizations
toolkit. UPSTREAM features logical file level support for S/390
LINUX as well as new non-disruptive online database agents for
Oracle and DB 2 UDB. These agents provide online support for backups
of the databases without having to take the databases offline.
An additional benefit is the ability to perform incremental processing
capabilities. These fully functional agents can also take advantage
of high speed connectivity such as HiperSockets.
DB2
Multi channel support
The new UPSTREAM DB2
(UDB) agent now supports multiple, simultaneous backup and restore
operations resulting in the fastest possible operations. The new
agent is fully compatible with the prior version and continues
to operate using DB2 commands.

UPSTREAM
improved SAP support
The FDR/UPSTREAM agent
for backing up Oracle based SAP R/3 databases "backint"
is now capable of performing backups of Oracle database in parallel.
This new enhancement provides high speed support for SAP databases
for backups and restore operations.
Cluster
support
FDR/UPSTREAM provides
sophisticated cluster support for Windows NT, Windows 2000 and
NetWare 6 cluster servers. Clusters have common storage with redundant
servers where, if a server fails, the service being provided by
the server can be quickly restarted on another server in the cluster.
UPSTREAM provides support for cluster specific information - for
example, the Cluster Quorum database for Windows 2000. Backups
started on a cluster aware UPSTREAM system can be automatically
restarted when a cluster server failover occurs - providing the
highest possible availability for your backup services.
New
improved Windows Configurator
The UPSTREAM Configurator
for Windows (USCFG.EXE) has been improved in a number of significant
ways. Some of these include:
Simplified setup for Windows. The mainframe IP address is all
that most users will have to enter to completely setup UPSTREAM
on Windows. UPSTREAM registration, service definitions for
Windows NT/2000/XP and the most common defaults are setup automatically.
A tabbed, easy
to use advanced dialog with context sensitive help containing
all of the options of the current configurator.
Integrated Novell
Profile configuration eliminate the need to run the SETNOV.EXE
program to add, modify or delete Novell login profiles - it's
now integrated into the configurator.
-
Vastly simplified
cluster server configuration which, from one configurator session,
sets up UPSTREAM completely throughout your cluster

DBIID change detection for Lotus
Notes incrementals.
If you specify for
any Notes backup, DBCHANGEDCHECK=I, UPSTREAM will save the DBIID
for the database in a separate file, in the same location and
name as the database, with a .DBIID extension. If the backup is
an incremental, then UPSTREAM will check the DBIID as well as
the Notes indicator concerning whether the database changed and
backup the database if necessary.
New
Reporting Option
Pending Deferred Merge
Backups REPORT
This reports on Full Merge backups that were performed with the
"Deferred" option that have not yet been completed
by the USTMERGE utility program.
Other
small fish swimming nibbles and bits
UPSTREAM has some very
simple file specifications techniques to define what you want
backed up such as the one easy spec of
/* for UNIX
and
\\. for Windows & Novell with SMS
DR
testing
If you have a Disaster
Recovery test planned a good rule of thumb would be to generate
and test the JCL jobstreams before you actually go to the DR site.
By preparing and performing some basic tests your DR exercise
will have a much better chance of being successful.
Log
clearing
LOG clearing and report
clearing is now built into the Director and will allow you to
clear any of the UPSTREAM or UPSTREAM agent logs
