June 13, 2003 IAM Customer Announcements

IAM Version 8.0 L20 is now available for beta testing, and will be GA in the 3rd Quarter of 2003.

This level will provide IAM support of VSAM RRDS type files for customers that are licensed for IAM Alternate Index support (IAM/AIX). Both fixed length record and variable length record RRDS's are supported. RECOMMENDATIONS

This bulletin is to bring to your attention a recent HIPER PTF for IAM, plus some additional recent IAM product information. The current maintenance level of IAM is V8.0L15. Customers with V8.0 prior to maintenance level 12 are encouraged to upgrade to this latest level with an updated install tape. There were some fixes, particularly for IAM RLS, which are only available in load modules that were reassembled for the level 12 tape. 1. PTF P-70.0182 for V7.0, and P-80.0124 for V8.0 are now available . This PTF resolves a problem that in a very specific and rare circumstance may result in the loss of a data record. This fix is applied to the IAM V8.0L14 tape and higher , and is included later in this bulletin. The PTF is also available on Innovation's FTP site.

2. Innovation's FTP site contains cumulative PTF files for IAM V8.0. The PTF files are updated on a regular basis with any updated or new PTF's. The FTP site can be accessed through Innovations Home Page, which is at www.innovationdp.fdr.com. Please contact Innovation for your FTP access code via email at support@fdrinnovation.com, if you do not already have one.

3. IAM V8.0 customers that are running levels prior to V8.0/14 are reminded to be sure to set the RLS Global Option to RLS=NONE if you are not using IAM RLS. This is the default for IAM Version 8.0L14 or higher.

4. If you have created DFSMS Extended Format IAM files with IAM V8.0, please remember that those files can not be accessed by prior versions of IAM.

5. IAM files can be used by customers who are developing Java Applications for CICS using the IBM supplied JCICS class library. Innovation has successfully tested the IBM supplied JCICS class library with IAM files in place of native VSAM files. The JCICS class library is compatible with IAM V8.0. Customers should be aware however that the IBM supplied JRIO class library and IAM are incompatible at this time.

6. A customer has successfully converted the VSAM KSDS file used by the $AVRS product to an IAM file. Since converting to IAM, the customer has eliminated their backlog of jobs waiting to be accumulated into the $AVRS database. Contact Innovation for additional information on using IAM with $AVRS.

7. Customers planning on using IAM V8.0 with View Direct V6.2 from Mobius, will need to apply IAM fix P800129. This fix is already applied to the V8.0/L15 maintenance level of IAM.

8. When installing, testing, and implementing new versions or maintenance levels of IAM, please review sections 90.20, 90.30, and 90.40 in the Installation Section of the IAM manual. Innovation provides information and examples to safely perform this process. Procedural errors when performing these actions can result in IAM not being operational until an IPL is performed, unexpected abends, or complete system outages.
